Tecno Spark 2 is successor to the viral spark k7. Due to the K7 and spark k9 plus success in the African smartphone market. It’s not surprising Tecno are pushing in another smartphone to attain such feat.
But the Spark 2 goes against the chronological number.
So, the question asks; Is it really an upgrade to the K7 or a step down?
Of course, it isn’t.
It comes with major upgrades in 6-inch full HD display and slimmer design and trimmed bezels. Besides, the phone incorporates a Face unlock ID and runs Android Oreo Go edition.
Sure, not everything is perfect with the smartphone as it doesn’t run on 4G.
Let’s take a look at the key features of the Spark 2 next to Spark K7.
As at the time of writing this review, the phone isn’t available online. But we’ll keep our ears to the ground and update you when it is available for purchase.
Head to Head: Tecno Spark 2 VS Spark K7[table id=44 /]
Design X Display
The Spark 2 has seen great design shifts; The thickness of 7.5mm makes the phone lightweight and adds sleekness to its aesthetics.
There’s also noticeable change in the camera positioning. The rear camera is located at the top left corner and underneath it is the LED flash. The fingerprint reader is marked by the circle in the back.
The trend of trimmed bezels is criteria for some when choosing a smartphone. Well, you’ll appreciate it the phone incorporates a slimmer bezel design with the 18:9 aspect ratio. What you get is more screen than bezels to enjoy media consumption.
One highlight on the phone is the improved screen resolution at 1440 x 720 pixels HD+ IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen on a 6-inch screen.
In all, the design wins it for me. If you want to upgrade from the Spark K7 to the K2 but have fears about buying a similar design smartphone as upgrade, don’t.
Don’t skimp on purchasing this smartphone. It has all the rings and bells of a budget device with high-end features.
This is not a camon device. However, we were not disappointed in the camera offerings.
In fact, the front camera has been upgraded from the 5MP on the Spark K7 to 8MP on the Spark K2. While the rear camera remains unchanged at 13MP camera.
The rear camera employs a Tri-LED flash for low light pictures, while the 8MP camera features a f/2.0 aperture with LED flash.
Regarding the camera quality, we can’t give a rating, considering we are yet to test the camera ourselves. But rest assured, it’s an upgrade to it’s predecessor.
Processor X Software X Hardware
The processor of the phone is the chip of the old block. There’s no major upgrade whatsoever, thus, the performance isn’t going to be extremely fast. Although, not as you’d expect on this phone.
It’s powered by the MediaTEK MT6580 P with a Quad-core processor of 32-bit CPU architecture which clocks at 1.3GHz. it’s also integrates the ARM Mali-400 MP2 for quality graphics.
Tecno Spark K2 also runs the Android Oreo Go edition. This is the second time Android Go is featured on a Tecno device, the first being Tecno F1.
User experience has been upgraded, with much regards to the HiOS V3.3 which I enjoy so much but restricts some customizations features. So, if I may suggest, you could always make do of great launchers like Nova.
The RAM comes in either 1GB or 2GB. You’ll have to spend more to purchase the latter. 16GB of internal storage is utilized and a Micro SD slot ensures you extend your internal memory up to 128GB.
It comes with non-removable 3500mAh Li-Ion battery. I won’t sing praises or ballads as I have for the Pouvoir 2, however, the battery manages to give a decent performance.
Tecno spark 2 supports a dual Nano-Sim. Face unlock ID is also introduced to the smartphone.
